Naturally you can dress any which way you like, but if you don’t would like to seem like you are seventeen, like you are trying too hard to stay young or appear older than you are, you may want some guidelines regarding ways to dress after 40. Here are just some of the important things women over 50 need to take note of.
Kindly note that these are just BASIC suggestions. They absolutely don’t apply to everyone.
Still, I also believe in suiting up to your strong points and taking your body into account so if you want to have a few rules on ways to dress after 50, then you can find them below
What are some of the many things you must steer clear of?
Do not buy clothes that do not beautify you, even if it’s the trends this season. For this it’s essential to know your physique, which I will discuss in upcoming posts.
Try not to be too matchy-matchy or too refined. It’s wonderful to mix things up and be a bit more lively. A 2 piece suit will very quickly look old. Nicer to mix that jacket with an additional skirt or pants and look effortlessly chic.
Stay clear of purchasing fabrics that are too inexpensive as they are usually not flattering or will not last. You can see some features of fabrics here. Best to get only the clothes that you love and that have a chance of lasting.
Don’t mix a tight skirt or pants with a tight top. Aim to have either a fitted dress with a loser top or the other way around. See also my suggestions on ways to wear leggings over 50.
Nothing is more important than dressing in a way that pleases and exemplifies you. If you know your style and understand your body you can break most of the guidelines or add items from the ‘don’t checklist’ as you please. My find your style challenge will help with that.
Identify the wardrobe fundamentals that are one-of-a-kind to your style. Have more lasting premium quality items in your wardrobe. These vary for each style personality but some essential classics are:
Mix and match designer pieces with non-designer ones.
Take a good critical look at yourself before you head out and see if you look too exaggerated. The goal is to look easily sophisticated so just assess and if essential you may have to add an item a bit more mellow.
Keep current with the fashion styles and make certain you have a few current things in your wardrobe. Only choose those trends that work for you! If you wish to know about the most recent trends you can subscribe to my email list and receive a free of cost style manual!
Wear skirts that are just over or on top of the knee which is the best dress length for women over 70. Try not to go too far above the knee as this is not flattering for your calves and your overall look will be older. You will seem the sexiest and chicest if the skirt is not too wide and not too long. Dainty women may want to go a bit shorter with their skirt lengths. For more details see my post on the best skirt length for women over fourty.
Play with add-ons like straps, fine jewelry and cap. They can make a real difference to your wardrobe.
